Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about custom-made cloisters

A question before setting up? Our advisors answer from Monday to Friday.

A cloister is a decorative, perforated partition that separates two spaces without closing them: it allows light and sight to pass while defining the zones. Made from custom-made wood, it serves as a room divider, headboard, window screen, privacy screen, or wall cladding.

A biface cloister is a cloister whose undulating pattern is carved on both sides: it is therefore decorative and identical on both sides. This is the novelty of Unikiwi, ideal for separating rooms that are visible from both sides, where neither side remains «the back».

Three finishes are available in the configurator: raw (to be completed by oneself), painted (tint of choice) and oiled wood. The oil, applied by hand in the workshop, nourishes the wood, reveals its grain and protects it while maintaining a natural touch: this is the recommended finish for oak and hevea.

The price depends on the dimensions, the type of wood and the finish. As a guide: starting from about €260/m² for MDF, €350/m² for maple and €550/m² for oak (HT). The biface and oiled wood options are calculated in real time by the configurator according to your project.

MDF is the affordable entry-level option, ideal for painting. Teak offers the best value for money with a warm, light-colored wood that looks stunning with a natural oil finish. Oak is the premium choice: noble French wood that is very durable and enhanced by the oil finish. Our «Wood» page offers a detailed comparison table.

Our claddings are delivered in kits with instructions. Depending on the project, they are mounted on the floor and ceiling, as wall cladding, or as self-supporting versions. Installation is usually done in two steps, in less than an hour, using standard tools.
